Favourite venue: River Trent, it offers so much variety not just the barbel.
Favourite Methods: Float fishing the margins for tench.
Top fishing tip: It’s the last few feet of your rig that matters the most so use a good quality hook.
Highlight of angling career: Becoming under 21 British canal champion in 1997. Catching tench from a huge, low stocked water.
Tell Us A Little About Your Angling Life: I started fishing when I was 6 with my Dad and we fished local ponds and small rivers. When I was 12 I entered a junior match on a local lake and won. That set the ball rolling and at 14 I joined Barnsley Juniors and two years later won the U21 canal championship. I continued to match fish into the early 2000’s until I took a break and had kids. Whilst on this break I did some thinking, didn’t like the direction match fishing was going and so decided to scratch my itch for bigger fish.
Future Aims & Goals in angling: I’m happy while ever I’m catching fish but it would be nice to keep improving on one personal best each season. There are a few species like bream and grayling I would like improve on significantly. Top of the list though is keeping my son Kyle interested and watching him progress.
What is The Main Food You Eat When You Are On The Bank: If it’s a day session then Pek sarnies, if it’s a night then I generally make a curry or pasta dish before hand to warm up and take a few pot noodles.
And Finally, 3 words to describe The Hook Bait Company: Fish Catching Goodies
Apart From Fishing What Are Your Other Favourite Sports Or Pastimes: I’m a big motor sport fan and go to watch Rallying in the forests and Touring cars on the tracks a few times a year.
